Christmas season is usually attributed as the season of joy, giving, family time and much more. But what makes it different from other seasons or festivities is the very reason behind it.
God had to sacrifice His only Son so that you and I can enjoy an unbroken relationship with Him. Nevertheless, we humans have a free will to accept Jesus – God’s perfect Christmas gift, as our Savior and Lord.
The Bible says, “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him” (Refer John 1:10-11).
Even when God Himself came to us in the form of man, died for our sins, gave us His promise that whosoever believes in Him would be called a child of God, we were still reluctant to accept His gracious benevolent offering.
Though the priests and kings of Jesus’ time knew that Jesus is the coming Messiah, they were not prepared to sacrifice their fleeting pleasures and identify themselves with Jesus who adorned a weak and timid appearance forsaking the grandeur of Heaven’s glory.
But the simple and willing hearts of ordinary shepherds and fishermen of Jesus’ time were recipient of the eternal life that Christ offered.
One saying of a very well-known Tamil poet can be roughly translated as, “A bad fruit lures more than good ones”. The Bible even corroborates that the human heart is beyond understanding and highly corrupted (Refer Jeremiah 17:9).
So, all these suggest that it’s very easy for a human heart to overlook good but choose bad things.
But I would encourage you to give a thought about this gift of eternal life which is in Christ Jesus alone, for the Bible says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Refer Acts 4:12)
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, carried our sins and died for us in our place so that we would not have to face the consequences of our sins.
The Bible says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him” (Refer John 3:36).
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior, we become children of God and have eternal life beyond this temporal life on earth.
So, let us not be like those to whom Christ came yet they did not receive, but like those who readily accept Him. Merry Christmas!
