“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
Atheists believe there is no God, Agnostics believe they know not for sure if there is a God. And some people have a wrong notion that though God created the world, He is not interested in the daily affairs of it or simply put, He doesn’t care.
Nothing can be further from the truth, as the Psalmist even wonders at God saying, “what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:4) But it was and is always Man who is turning his back, and turning a blind eye to God and His creation. (Refer Romans 1:20-21)
Though man was running away from God ever since Adam sinned at Garden of Eden, God has been trying to reach out to him. “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (Hebrews 1:1-2).
After Christ has come and redeemed mankind, the ministry of reconciliation has been given to us and though angels and prophets are still involved, we the saints and disciples of Christ are the salt and light to this dying world (Refer Matthew 5:13-14)
The Bible nowhere says God wants to get reconciled to Men, but instead it always says God wants men to be reconciled to Himself. (Refer 2 Corinthians 5:18-20) God has already forgiven us in Christ (Refer Romans 5:8) and is willing to restore the lost relationship with man, who is turning his back on God.
And we who have believed in Him are called to be ambassadors of Christ and what a word to choose of all to explain our position in this world. (Refer 2 Corinthians 5:20) Just like how an ambassador of one country to another, always seeks the good of his home country and how he is protected by his home country though he is setup in a foreign land, so are we and much more.
We are to know that though we are in this world, we are not of this world (Refer John 17:16) and always be mindful that we are on a mission set out by God Himself. (Refer Matthew 10:16)
Abraham was promised the land of Canaan, “For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.” (Hebrews 11:10), Peter identifies us as sojourners and exiles (Refer 1 Peter 2:11) and Paul calls who are mature to press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Refer Philippians 3:14-15)
So in all, let us be vigilant and be ready to make a defense for our hope (Refer 1 Peter 3:15) and also to make use of the time while it’s day (Refer John 9:4). Let us continue to prevail against the gates of hades (Refer Matthew 16:18) as long as it’s day and are kept as the salt and light of this world. But there will come a day when this salt and light would be taken out at the Lord’s coming, and the world would be left to fend for its own.
Until then, let us hold fast to our confession of hope, to stir up one another to love and good works, encouraging one another in Christ (Refer Hebrews 10:23-25) and above all to plunder hell and populate heaven!
