As we start this New Year 2017, we might be joyous and happy for the change of year or we might have fears gripping our hearts on how this New Year is going to be. But whether we like it or not, we have to move on to this New Year and embrace it!! They say that the only thing that never changes is Change itself!! We have seen Televisions change from Black/White to Colour to LCD to LED; Telephones change from Landline to Pager to cellphones to Smartphones. Likewise so many changes are all happening at the same time with such haste in these last 3 decades alone. On a lighter note, we do all feel like dogs chasing fast moving cars to keep up with the latest technology updates that are happening world-wide.
Yes it’s true, Change is inevitable and Change is good but not always, especially when the foundation of our livelihood changes for worse. We might feel our world is shaken when the doctor hands over a Cancer diagnosis report, or when we lose someone dear forever, or when we lose our job or when we don’t have enough money to pay the house rent – the untoward changes unforeseen. But the Bible tells of a Person called Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today and forever!! (Hebrews 13:8) Simply put, He never changes!! What a comforting word it is in this ever-changing world.
Our anticipation of the change of year may be coupled with anxiety or hope, but that entirely depends on what it’s founded on!! A man’s Faith is only as strong as on what it’s based/founded upon. And Bible tells us that Jesus is the Sure Foundation which is already laid by God and urges us to put our faith and build our lives on Him!! (1 Corinthians 3:11) For if our lives are built on anything less, it is prone for a sure fall. When all our hopes and dreams are built on our own plans and efforts or if they all depend on someone else’s help for us, they are sure in for a shaking. These are false foundations that are not sure but give way and crumbles ultimately. And Bible clearly clarifies it – “Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.” (Psalm 146:3, 4) And also it goes on to say that – “Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them” (Psalm 146:5,6)
Also Jesus Himself compares anyone who builds his life on Him to a wise man who built his house upon the Rock. And when the rains and floods came against the house, it withstood all. Jesus also likens one who does not build his life on Him, as to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. When the rains and floods came and beat against the house, the foundation shook, the house collapsed and its fall was great. (Matthew 7:24-27) Well, nobody wants to build their houses on a shaky ground but here we are contemplating something much worth than a house, our Soul which is immortal. Is your life built on this sure foundation of Christ or on the constantly shifting shaky ground that the world offers? Jesus is called “The Chief Cornerstone” (Ephesians 2:20) the crux where the entire load of a building rests upon. Our God the Father calls us to rest the load of our lives on Him and in return offers rest for our Souls. Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Like an unmoving anchor for a Ship on a stormy day is Jesus for us!! Bible says that – “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:19) In this New year, would we commit our precious Soul into the loving hands of Jesus, who is called the Anchor of our Soul and be rest assured that it would be the day our lives changed only for the last time and then built on the Sure and Steadfast Foundation in Jesus Christ!!
“When Jesus becomes our Foundation, all our fears become Unfounded!”
